How did FairFremtid come about?
In November 2014, a chance meeting sparked a transformative mission to support asylum-seeking children in Denmark. Tine Lautrup, a communications graduate, heard through her husband – who worked at a children’s asylum center – about two Afghan brothers, aged 16 and 19, who were facing potential deportation. Their precarious situation raised critical questions about the treatment of unaccompanied minors and families who have been separated by forced migration.
At the same time, Nina Ziari, a dedicated volunteer with extensive experience in asylum support since 2009, had already established connections in the asylum-seeking community. As the brothers faced imminent imprisonment and potential deportation, Tine and Nadia joined forces to create meaningful change.
Their first collaboration focused on two main goals: raising public awareness of the challenges asylum children face in Denmark and providing direct legal and social support to vulnerable families. What began as a grassroots effort quickly evolved into a Facebook group that became the foundation of Fair Future

Their first collaboration focused on two main goals: raising public awareness of the challenges asylum children face in Denmark and providing direct legal and social support to vulnerable families. What began as a grassroots effort quickly evolved into a Facebook group that became the foundation of Fair Future.
The first big success came with the two Afghan brothers. Through persistent advocacy, Tine and Nadia managed to get the eldest brother’s asylum case reopened and ultimately secure his residence permit. The younger brother found temporary refuge in a church and Nadia provided ongoing support. Eventually, they managed to obtain his legal status by highlighting his status as an unaccompanied minor and his significant connection to Denmark.
This first victory was just the beginning. As word spread, more unaccompanied children facing deportation sought their help. By mid-2015, the movement had attracted several volunteers who were passionate about protecting vulnerable young asylum seekers. Recognizing the growing need and potential for systematic support, Tine and Nadia officially established Our Asylum Children as a registered association in September 2017.
Since its founding, Fair Future has been committed to its core mission: to provide legal guidance, social support, and a voice to asylum-seeking children and their families navigating Denmark’s complex immigration system.
